Permit to Carry a Handgun

It is against the law for any person -- other than a law enforcement officer who has authority to make arrests -- to carry, hold or possess a pistol in a public place or public area without first having obtained a permit to carry the pistol.

The State of Minnesota's new permit to carry a handgun law became effective on May 28, 2003. According to the law, the Woodbury Police Department can no longer process permit to carry applications for Woodbury residents. Residents now need to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office to obtain and submit a permit application.
