Fire Services

The Woodbury Fire Division currently operates four fire stations at: 2100 Radio Drive (headquarters), 6975 Thames Road, 6301 Upper Afton Road and 1275 Woodbury Drive.

The fire division is responsible for responding to all of the life safety issues within the City of Woodbury. Some examples of the types of emergency calls that the fire division responds to are: fires, rescues, hazardous material situations and emergency medical calls. The fire division is also responsible for public safety education and fire prevention programs.

Woodbury's fire division is considered to be a combination fire department. This means the city uses a combination of full-time and on-call employees to respond to calls for service. Currently the department is staffed with three full-time fire chief officers, one part-time chief officer, a full-time fire inspector, nine full-time firefighters, support staff and 85-plus on-call firefighter/EMTs.

On-call firefighter/EMTs and on-call EMTs are not full-time employees of the city. They are individuals who work a regular full-time job elsewhere. On-call employees are paid when they respond to fire, medical and emergency calls, and when they attend training and other required activities.

The fire division provides all of the firefighter and EMT training that is needed to become certified by the state as Firefighter I, Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician. Firefighters also receive specialized training in areas of confined space rescue, high/low angle rescue, water rescue and disaster preparedness response, as well as all of the continuing education training needed to maintain training certification levels through weekly training sessions.

On-call firefighter/EMTs and on-call EMTs are needed. To qualify you must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Minnesota driver's license, and be able to respond to one of the fire stations within four minutes from your residence. Persons interested in becoming an on-call firefighter/EMT or on-call EMT should contact Human Resources at (651) 714-3523, or send an e-mail to woodbury@ci.woodbury.mn.us
