Fire Inspections Program HistoryThe Woodbury Fire/EMS Task Force was created in 2004 to evaluate the current and future staffing levels for the Fire/EMS Division of Public Safety, and to create a strategic, multi-year plan to meet community needs. At that time, the Fire Services Division did not have a person who specialized in the fire code, as it applies to new and existing commercial and residential construction. The task force determined that the fire marshal duties would be better serviced through the Inspections Division of the Community Development Department. In 2007, the City of Woodbury restructured its Building Safety and Fire Prevention Program. Fire suppression inspections and fire prevention site visits are now being scheduled through the Inspections Division. The program includes regularly scheduled fire prevention site visits from the fire marshal. High occupancy buildings, such as schools, churches, restaurants, retail spaces, and high-hazard buildings are visited annually. Office buildings and other similarly occupied buildings are visited every other year. Questions should be directed to the fire marshal, Mike Bent, at (651) 714-3543, or mbent@ci.woodbury.mn.us.
