Parks and Recreation provides for the orderly and planned development of the parks and trails system as well as its maintenance and upkeep. In addition, the department creates opportunities for all age groups to participate in recreation programs that cater to a variety of interests. Woodbury's current park system consists of 45 park sites (five are undeveloped), 3,000 acres of dedicated park land, and approximately 100 miles of trails. The neighborhood parks form the cornerstone of the city's park system and include facilities such as playground equipment, athletic fields and courts, picnic areas, multi-use trails and skating rinks. In addition, Woodbury has a unique indoor park that serves as a central gathering place. Central Park is a beautiful year-round facility perfect for weddings, receptions, special events, meetings and other activities. Located in the heart of Woodbury, the park is meant to suggest the St. Croix River Valley and features 60 trees, more than 1,400 under story and ground cover plants, miniature cliffs, a 16-foot waterfall, and a small stream. Bielenberg Sports Center is another popular recreation destination at any time of year. It houses two indoor ice rinks and a field house with an indoor track that is available for walk/run time daily on a fee basis. The outdoor complex consists of 18 softball/baseball fields, 18 multipurpose fields, and is the future home of the Miracle Field, a ball field specially designed to accommodate persons with disabilities. The site also features four park shelters/picnic facilities with restrooms, a sand volleyball court, handicapped accessible play equipment and 5 miles of trails that wind throughout the complex. Woodbury also operates a municipal golf course. Eagle Valley Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course, designed to be challenging for players at all skill levels. The course is laid out on 225 acres south of Valley Creek Road and east of Woodbury Drive. The design takes advantage of the site's rolling terrain and natural resources. Eagle Valley offers a wide variety of services including a full service golf shop, food and beverage service, and banquet room for meetings and receptions. The Woodbury Parks & Recreation Commission is composed of seven citizens appointed by the City Council to three-year staggered terms. Meetings are generally scheduled at City Hall for the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. and are open for the public to attend and comment. Meetings are televised live on cable channel 16 and replayed the following day, Wednesday, at noon. Agendas are posted at City Hall, the Woodbury branch library, on the Web, and on cable channel 16 the Friday before the meeting.
