
   
Advisory Commissions
The City Council is assisted in its decision-making
process by five appointed advisory commissions that work on a volunteer
basis. These commissions are as follows:
Audit and Investment Commission
The Audit and Investment Commission (AIC) assists the City Council in reviewing the city's financial affairs. The commission also serves as a communication link between the City Council and the independent auditor. The AIC generally meets three times per year. Economic Development Authority
The Economic Development Authority is a separate legal authority under state law that studies and analyzes economic development
needs of the city and implements programs to attract business. The EDA
is also responsible for administering several financial incentive programs.
The City Council serves as the EDA. The EDA meets several times per year, generally at 6:45 p.m., prior to City Council meetings. Meetings are cablecast at 6:45 p.m. on Channel 16 and are also rebroadcast throughout the week. Economic Development Commission
The Economic Development Commission evaluates and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding matters of city financing and economic development activities.
The EDC meets six times per year at 7:30 a.m. Please call Community Development

Environmental Advisory Commission
The Environmental Advisory Commission advises the City Council and other
advisory commissions regarding matters relevant to sustainability
issues including solid waste, air, water, land, energy and other natural
resources. The EAC meets on the fourth Monday of the month on an as needed
basis. Meetings are cablecast in January, April, July, and October at
7 p.m. on Channel 16 and are also rebroadcast throughout the week.

Housing and Redevelopment Authority
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) is a separate, legal authority under state law that directs redevelopment projects with the specific purpose of removing blight and promoting affordable, safe, and decent housing. The City Council serves as the HRA, a common practice among municipalities.
The HRA meets several times per year, generally at 6:45 p.m., prior to City Council meetings. Meetings are cablecast at
6:45 p.m. on Channel 16 and are also rebroadcast throughout the week.

Park and Recreation Commission
The Park and Recreation Commission works to protect natural resources,
studies park site planning and reviews recreation programs. It makes recommendations
relating to the location of parks and the layout of amenities within city
parks. The commission also monitors operations at Bielenberg Sports Center
and Eagle Valley Golf Course. Agendas are posted at City Hall, the Woodbury
branch library and on cable Channel 16 the Friday before the meeting.

on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. These meetings are cablecast

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is responsible for all questions relating to planning
and zoning regulations. It reviews all applications for development and
recommends approval or denial based on conformance with the comprehensive
plan and zoning regulations. The commission meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. If additional meetings are needed, they will be scheduled on the third Monday of the month. The meetings are cablecast live on Channel

When to Apply for Advisory Commissions
The City of Woodbury fills all vacancies on the advisory
commissions each fall. All of the openings are volunteer positions that are appointed
by the City Council. The terms begin in January following Council approval,
and appointments are for three years unless noted otherwise.
How to Apply for Advisory Commissions
- Generally, the city announces
the openings on the advisory commissions in the Woodbury Bulletin, City Update newsletter, and on the city
Web site. September is the usual time frame.
- All applicants are interviewed by the City Council
at a meeting scheduled sometime after the application deadline. This
meeting most often occurs in November.
- Criteria used by the City Council to evaluate candidates
include: personal and professional experience which may relate to the
subject areas of the board or commission; knowledge of the community;
knowledge of city government process; contribution to creating or maintaining
a diversity of membership with respect to geographic location, gender
or race; experience from similar appointments.
