Get Caught RecyclingUpdated: Jan. 6, 2010 Putting recyclables out for curbside pickup is the right thing to do and, with a program that started in 2006, it also could be a profitable thing to do. Sponsored by the city and the Environmental Advisory Commission, the program rewards residents who "Get Caught Recycling" with $50 in cash. Here's how it works: Each month, an address in one of the city's four trash hauling/recycling districts is randomly selected. City staff will personally check by 7 a.m. on pickup day to see if residents of that address have recyclables on the curb. If they do, they win $50. With four trash and recycling pickup days in Woodbury, residents in each area are eligible to win three times during the year. Only one prize is awarded each month, for a total of $600 over the course of the year. The money for the program comes from recycling grant funds distributed by Washington County. The program is designed to stimulate more interest in recycling, although Woodbury has an excellent residential recycling rate. Each month's winning address will be listed on the Woodbury Web site (see below). So make sure to put out your recyclables every collection day. Not only will you be in compliance with city code, you also might be $50 richer!
