SUMMARY
Children’s Safety Centers has applied for a charitable gambling license to be conducted at O’Malley’s Pub, LLC, 1775 Radio Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Council adopt the attached resolution approving the Charitable Gambling License for Children’s Safety Centers to be conducted at O’Malley’s Pub, LLC, 1775 Radio Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota, provided that they are able to meet the requirement that 80% of the net proceeds support recreations, cultural, and civic programs benefiting the citizens of the city.
BUDGET IMPACT
There will be no budget impact.
BACKGROUND
The Children’s Safety Centers is requesting a Charitable Gambling permit for pull-tabs booth at O’Malley’s Pub, LLC in Woodbury. The Children’s Safety Centers primary purpose is to reduce the exposure of children to the violence and trauma of visitation situations where there is a history of domestic violence, sexual abuse or other factors creating stress in visitation situations.
City of Woodbury ordinance requires a non-profit organization seeking a charitable gambling license be a local organization. Ordinance defines local as an organization having at least forty (40) percent of its members list a Woodbury city or rural route mailing address in the existing 55125 zip code, or in its successor as determined by the U.S. Postal Service. Children’s Safety Centers reported 10 of their 24 members reside in the City of Woodbury.
The Police Department has reviewed the application and sees no reason to deny the permit.
