Dog Licenses

A dog license must be purchased for each dog over the age of six months residing in the City of Woodbury. Dog licenses must be renewed every two years.

Licenses should be purchased prior to March 31 in even-numbered years. If licenses are purchased after March 31, the license fees will double (with the exception of new residents and newly acquired dogs).

New residents and newly acquired dogs

  • New residents of Woodbury must license their dog within 60 days.
  • Newly acquired dogs must be licensed within 60 days or within 6 months of age, whichever comes first.
  • If you are a new resident obtaining a license in an odd-numbered year, the price is prorated and reduced by 50 percent.
  • If you are obtaining a license for a newly acquired dog during an odd-numbered year, the price is prorated and reduced by 50 percent.

Effective Aug. 3, 2009, licenses can be purchased at City Hall, 8301 Valley Creek Road, during normal business hours. There is a charge of $10 for neutered or spayed dogs; there is an $18 charge for non-neutered or non-spayed dogs. Payment options are cash or check only; credit cards are not accepted. Proof of rabies vaccination must be provided when purchasing the license.

Please note that all dogs must have a current City of Woodbury dog license to use the city's dog park.

It is not necessary that cats be licensed. However, ordinance regulations do apply to cats as well as to dogs.

For further information regarding ordinance regulations for animals, call City Hall at (651) 714-3500 or e-mail kblaeser@ci.woodbury.mn.us.
